Story / Motivation
The living conditions and needs of the occupants and users of a building are constantly changing. We want to give users the opportunity to build their own bathroom adapted to their needs and maintain spatial flexibility.
The Bathbox is a fully usable, flexible and dismountable bathroom made of recyclable materials with reversible connections. It consists of three modules that can be individually manufactured and assembled as needed.
All modules are made of a lightweight plywood shell, the shower module is also equipped with a water-repellent inner shell made of recycled acrylic. The plastic panels are screwed watertight onto the plywood shell with sheet metal screws. In the corners of the inner shell, the two panels are clamped into a right-angled aluminum corner profile along their entire length with flat sponge rubber gaskets. The panels stand on the shower tray and are pressed into a shower seal with a round hose seal.
The individual modules can be self-manufactured with good basic craft skills, all connections are screwed or clamped. By not using adhesives or liquid sealants, hazardous waste is avoided and adjacent materials are not contaminated by adhesives. In addition, there is no need to interfere with the existing building. In accordance with the sustainability strategy, the modules can be produced at low cost, differently and in line with demand. After a period of use, the modules can be removed from a living/studio unit and made available to the next user or deconstructed. The Bathbox reduces effort as well as costs and protects the environment (compared to conventional bathrooms and comparable solutions made of plastic).
